#34: Apple Pie
Whelp…here we are again. At the precipice of another pie dish. More than any other item, doing the pie recipes always makes me feel like I’m writing to an empty audience, knowing that most people’s pre-made decisions regarding their own pastry capabilities will preclude them from even glancing at the ingredient list, never mind reading the directions themselves. But I amble on anyway, hoping that one day, I’ll spit out a pie recipe that will incentivize overcoming your hang-ups. Is today that day for you? Maybe. If a deep-dish apple pie with a crust so shatteringly flaky sounds like just the nudge you needed to get you to a place where you could attempt your first pie crust, then so be it. If not, I have, of course, left you a safety net – one so soft and buttery that you need never face your pastry fears head-on, knowing that there will always be a foolproof version waiting for you in the rafters.
Pastry risk-takers: jump headfirst into the flakiest, juiciest deep-dish apple pie.
Pastry phobics: walk slowly towards these blunder-forgiving, caramelly apple dumplings.
